Our take on ServiceM8
Priced by jobs, not by people
ServiceM8 does one thing differently that changes the whole calculation: it charges by how many jobs you run per month, not by how many users you have. Every plan includes unlimited users. There is a free tier for 30 jobs a month, then Starter at $29 for 50 jobs, Growing at $79 for 150, Premium at $149 for 500, and Premium Plus at $349 for 1,500 or more.
For a small team that runs a modest number of larger jobs, that model is unusually cheap, because you can put the whole crew on it without paying per seat. For a high-volume shop doing hundreds of small jobs, the job count is the thing to watch, since that is what moves you up the tiers.
The Apple question
ServiceM8 was built Apple-first, and it is at its best on iPhones and iPads. There is web access, but if your technicians are on Android, this is the single biggest thing to test before committing, because the experience is not as complete there. For an iOS-based micro business, the mobile job flow is genuinely slick and quick to pick up.
Where it stops
This is a light tool by design. Reporting is thinner than the bigger platforms, there is no flat-rate pricebook or financing, and it is not meant to run a large operation. On accounting it syncs with QuickBooks Online and Xero but not Desktop. For a solo operator or a small Apple-based trade that wants essentials without overhead, that is exactly the trade you want.
What users consistently report
ServiceM8 users praise a smooth, simple interface, real-time tracking, and on-site quoting and invoicing that fit how field technicians actually work, especially on the polished iOS app.
The consistent knocks are a slow, clunky invoicing flow, a reliance on a solid internet connection, and above all the weak Android story. A lighter Android app arrived in 2024 and expanded in 2025, but the vendor still steers main technicians toward iPhones, so an Android-first crew should test it thoroughly before committing rather than assume parity with the iOS experience.
Best for
- Micro and small trade businesses
- Apple/iOS-centric teams
- Owner-operators wanting a light footprint
Think twice if
- Android-first teams
- Larger operations needing deep reporting
- Complex commercial contractors
